Mimi's second novel, A Suggestion of Death, follows Cinda Hayes of Render Up the Body as she takes on a new and challenging client. Mariah McKay is the estranged daughter of a popular political candidate, a young woman who may or may not have been the victim of very bad experiences in her childhood. Mariah seems to be involved with a right-wing militia that gathers in eastern Boulder County, under the apparent leadership of a very unusual judge, a farmer who quotes Auden and thinks that American law has taken a wrong turn. Nevertheless, he wants Cinda to represent Mariah and discover whether her patchy memories can support a lawsuit. Of couse, not everyone thinks this is a good idea. Some will even go to great lengths to prevent it from happening. |
